Craft Fails

They say it's not wasting time as long as you enjoy what you're doing, but when I work on something and then realize....yeah, not so much...I feel like I've wasted my time. However, maybe it's not so bad to share these craft fails and remind ourselves that the blogosphere is almost always the most polished side of the story.

1. I was cutting up an old T-shirt sleeve and had a left over piece from the shoulder area. I thought I could make some kind of fringe necklace. I was wrong. My husband came around the corner and said, "What is that? It's so creepy looking!". He was so right -I'd have to be part of a biker gang to pull this thing off. Hideous!

2. I had been messing around with stitching on felt and thought pairing it with ribbon would make a cute bookmark/wrap thing...um, no. This was only a draft, so admittedly it could easily be prettier, but the entire concept is stupid. It's so cumbersome that I would never in a million years actually use it as a bookmark. Moving along...

3. Admittedly I have a pom pom addiction, however using this method to make one out of a napkin just didn't do it for me. The funny thing is, I made it over a month ago and it's become this joke that we keep moving/tossing around our living room.

HOWEVER, like Michaela said of her sketchbook in her recent interview, lots of ideas can grow out of our notes and attempts. I already have ideas for taking these things further, so let's see if I get there!

What about you? Any epic craft fails you'd care to share? Crafting is definitely not all rainbows and unicorns is it?

Oh, yes. I have so many things like these.. I keep them for a some time and try to convince myself that they are 'artistic' and not lame. Then they end up in the trashbin...

You are cracking me up. Hilarious that you throw your pom around like a hot potato.

Some good laughs tonight! Maybe you could use your pom pom to play table football.

I actually have a whole box full of failed craft attempts. It usually happens when I start on something too late at night!

I don't have any pictures, but I tried making a bowl once covering a balloon with strips of paper from grocery bags (wet down with wallpaper paste). So. Not. Pretty.

I love your honesty. :-) I have more misses than I can count, but I shuffle them out the door and into the trash as fast as I can. I try to stay upbeat about it. "At least I got that idea out of my system!"

i just got the idea of exchanging failed crafts with some people and see what comes out, if someone gets your stuff - you get someones stuff - and both of you have the goal to use or develope it. somehow finish the project in an unintended way...

@birrd - that could be a hilarious idea if anybody did it, ha! I must confess that I barely have enough time to attempt the growing list of ideas I already have; life is like that!

Well that's absolutely my problem, too. List is long, day is short. And too much nasty stuff to be done..
