and it is. All manner of Swedish elements decorate the inside, from massive photos of the Swedish countryside and modern Scandinavian design...
...to traditional elk decor.
The Swedish couple who primarily run the place - she the waitress, and he the chef - are really friendly. I don't think I've ever seen her not smile. They always remember us and say hello, and she's stopped to chat more than a few times. She likens the restaurant's decor to their modern style mixed with a little of their parents' rustic Swedish-country preferences.
Whatever it is, we like it. That, combined with the crazy-delicious fresh food they serve, makes us want to go to Sweden, pronto! I really can't say enough about the food: sure, it's a little more than the average place in our university town, but it's so worth it! They have things like fresh fish with a foamy dill sauce, carrot-lemongrass soup, and chili-marinated shrimp. You always leave full, yet feeling that you didn't eat too much or any gross, processed stuff. I could eat there every day!
Afterwards, we like to walk around town a little more. We usually hit up Coffee Bay - Stefan's favorite cafe and our region's version of Starbucks - for lattes and dessert.

I love places like this one, with a personal touch.
I have a hangout near me called Georgia's. It's not nearly as funky as your spot, but it makes me feel at home. I go there on my birthday to have a sweet pastry, a cup of coffee, and sit reading the New York Times.
That dish looks like it would not come from a kitchen of a mom and pop shop. No, it looks like a culinary masterpiece.
CC - I think you said you go to Gloucester sometimes - have you tried Sugar Magnolia's or Lee's for breakfast? Both have that mom & pop feel, but with very different atmospheres! I love a good breakfast place!
cute place, love the stones on the street
What wonderful places to hangout! The food looks delicious!
it looks like a great place to hang. love how you described the decor. happy weekend!
Nice Elk! :-) Right now my favorite hang out is a comfortable little coffee shop right on the baroque Ludwigsburg Marktplatz. Sealing the deal? It's right next to the free childcare club! (hubby and I have a saturday coffee date morning there without the kids!)
I love the giant elk. And i like that it's considered "traditional" haha. I have a serious style crush on the swedes, so I'm pretty jealous of that cute little establishment. thanks for sharing it.
Totally LOVE this!!! Wow, it seems so glam your life:)
