Dinner on the Balcony

It's been nice to be able to enjoy the balcony lately and I am so thankful we have some outdoor space with our apartment. I can't imagine living without it! The DIY screen from last year is still going strong and I'm so pleased. It really helps enclose the space and blocks some less-than-scenic views. We have two full trees that surround the other sides of our balcony; the green leaves provide just the right amount of privacy as we look out into our neighbor's yard.

Right now I can't get enough of our white lilac tree and I hope it stays blooming for a while longer! We also have red and white ranunculus all along one side and that's been really fun this year; they look like mini cupcakes, ha ha! They won't be around for much longer though. When we first planted them I kept thinking of 'we're painting the roses red' from Alice in Wonderland, ha! We also found a little gnome and laminated gingham pinwheel to cheer things up a bit. It's the little things...

Do you have an outdoor space? What's making it special for you?

I love, love ranunculus! My garden has become very, very important to me. I would have never thought just how much. Now I just need to learn how to actually sit in it. I always end up doing something when I go out.

Gorgeous! I am completely jealous of your sun and flowers. It's been rainy and cold here for MONTHS, and our flowers haven't started blooming yet despite it being mid-May. LOVE the DIY screen and how you've decorated.

I first thought your color scheme looks patriotic! Red & White Ranunculus with blue in the background. :-)
Looks fabulous!!

I wondered what those flowers were called! They are my absolute favourite, ad I am so glad I now have a name for them! Yours are gorgeous. Love the red!

My first thought too was red, white, and blue... funny. But what really stuck out to me was that you took the time to do a little fancy snip, snip work on your basil. Wow, more patience than I have.

In rainy Hamburg we don't see the sun as often as I would like, but we've had a few nice days in between. Right now sitting outside on our terrace is one big reminder that I really need to weed the garden. Sigh.

How pretty and maybe a little patriotic too! :-)

Thanks everybody! Your comments made me smile, so a few things:

* I totally have no patience for snipping basil, ha ha! Those just happened to be very curly leaves, so when I tried to make them lie flat, they ended up tearing, so no, no snipping! =)

* As for the colors being patriotic; totally unintentional, lol. This was our first time with red flowers and yes, with the things we already have out there it certainly DOES look patriotic, doesn't it? I actually wanted all white blooms, but there just weren't enough available when we went shopping. Oh well, it's fun for a season, right? =)

I love this type of flower! With a patio space like that, I would want to eat outside too!
